The active substance in Alopexy is Minoxidil, a hypotensive compound that, when used topically, stimulates the growth of keratinocytes and hair (in vitro and in vivo studies). In order for the stimulation of hair growth to be noticeable, treatment may be necessary, consisting in the use of the product twice a day, for 2 months. The dose should be applied to the scalp and spread with the fingertips over the entire surface of the skin to be treated. After topical administration, minoxidil is absorbed to a small extent – an average of 1.7% of the dose is absorbed into the general circulation. The use of Alopexy by women is not recommended because of its limited effectiveness and the presence of excessive hair outside the places where it is used.
