MENOFEM is a dry water-alcohol extract of plantain rhizomes containing, among other things, estrogenic (female sex hormones – similar to estrogen) substances. These substances reduce the secretion of luteinizing hormone, which is released from the anterior lobe of the medulla. It is known that an increased level of luteinizing hormone causes hot flashes. Serum levels of other hormones, such as FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) and prolactin, do not change.
MENOFEM is used to alleviate mild to moderate neurovegetative problems accompanying the climacteric (transitional) period, such as hot flashes, sweating, nervousness, irritability, depressive episodes, sleep and concentration disorders.
